The Father's Day weekend begins with a fair amount of cloudiness, but a drier northeast wind flow off the lake from a high pressure to the north will scour out the clouds rather expeditiously and result in a fairly pleasant afternoon.

High temperatures will warm into the low 80s well inland, but near the lake it will only be in the middle 60s to near 70 degrees.

Lake Michigan water temperatures are slowly climbing, but still fairly cool.

Saturday beach forecast

Highs are likely to get close to 70 degrees but settle back into the 60s as the northeast wind picks up a bit. It’s hardly ideal swimming weather, but there should be a fair amount of sunshine.

Saturday boating forecast

A slight chop on Lake Michigan is expected due to northeast winds. Expect waves 1-3 feet with a shoreline water temperature of 62 degrees.

Sunburn forecast

Strong June sun will result in a sunburn in just 20 minutes during peak time, at 1 PM.

Looking Ahead

The extended outlook calls for Monday with clouds and sun and the chance of late-day showers and thunderstorms. Highs in the mid-80s.

Things get hot and humid for the middle of the week, with high temperatures near 90 and a chance of showers and thunderstorms. Juneteenth on Thursday will have temperatures in the mid to low 80s, and it’ll be near 80 for the Summer Solstice on Friday with partly to mostly sunny skies.

Chicago’s precipitation chances

Following a quiet weekend, warmth and humidity return and bring a far more active weather pattern next week with chances for periodic thunderstorm clusters.

A much more humid period is in store next week. When the dew point rises above 60 degrees, it starts to feel humid. This is expected to happen multiple times over the next week.

Severe weather?

Portions of northern Illinois are currently being monitored for possible severe weather between Wednesday, June 18, through Thursday, June 19. th timeframe. This forecast is more of a heads up and will be refined in the coming days.

Total rainfall forecast for the next 7 days

Thunderstorms can bring drenching downpours in select areas where they hit. While much of the Chicago area could see totals in excess of 1" when each individual storm cluster is tallied, it’s likely some areas will see much more. Torrential rainfall is possible for portions of Iowa, Minnesota and western Wisconsin where totals of 3-5" are possible.

Chicago forecast highs and departures from normal for the next five days

Summer-like warmth arrives by Father's Day and continues next week, resulting in highs well above normal.
