Police find drunk driver attempting to change a flat tire with the car in the ditch: South Euclid Police Blotter

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio

Impaired driving: South Belvoir Boulevard

A car went off the roadway and into a ditch around 5:20 a.m. on June 7 near Princeton Boulevard.

The officers arrived to find the vehicle with a tire almost completely ripped off and dislodged into the front fender.

Despite the vehicle being clearly inoperable, the driver was attempting to place a jack under it to change the tire.

He said he went off the roadway because he got a flat tire, but officers noticed several signs of impairment and suspected otherwise.

The South Euclid man, 22, subsequently failed sobriety tests and was arrested for OVI.

Assault: Wrenford Road

A woman reported on June 2 that her niece had been assaulted at Bexley Park a short time earlier by a known girl.

The victim, 13, had minor injuries to her face but no medical assistance was requested.

Assault charges are being recommended in juvenile court against the 13-year-old suspect.

Theft: Warrensville Center Road

A man from Cleveland, aged 25, fled from Walmart on June 9 while pushing a cart outside the store that contained two cases of stolen beer.

Responding officers found him behind Penn Station but only recovered one case of beer. He was cited for theft and given a lifetime ban from the South Euclid Walmart and a two-year ban from all other Walmarts.

Theft: Mayfield Road

A Marc's employee reported on June 3 that a man walked out of the store drinking beer he had just stolen.

She said that he had been in the store about an hour earlier, but she sent him away when she saw him concealing alcohol in his backpack. She said he returned, opened a four-pack of whiskey drinks and began drinking one while placing the rest into his backpack.

Responding officers located the Cleveland man, 33, in the area and cited him for theft and possession of an open container of alcohol.

Burglary: South Green Road

A woman reported on June 5 that she had just returned home from work and discovered that someone had broken into her home.

Officers found that someone had pushed in a window air-conditioner to access the home.

The woman did not find anything missing and could not suggest any suspects.

Stolen vehicle: Neville Road

A resident reported on June 4 that his vehicle was stolen from his driveway overnight.

The door lock to the car was found in the driveway.

Fraud: Homestead Road

A man, 20, reported on June 5 that he was scammed out of $185 when trying to buy a pair of shoes he found listed for sale on Instagram.

He said that he sent the money through Apple Pay but never received the shoes and then found out that the seller’s account was deleted.

A report was filed at the request of his bank.

Suspicion: Cedar Road

Officers responded on June 5 to a report of two suspicious men near a business.

The caller said that they were acting strangely and possibly impaired.

Upon identifying the man, officers discovered that he had a felony warrant out for him by the county for receiving stolen property.

When attempting to detain him, he resisted until he saw that another officer was about to release a K-9 on him. This immediately caused the man, aged 47, to cease his resistance, and he was arrested without further incident.

Theft: Warrensville Center Road

Walmart loss prevention reported on June 6 that an employee had been stealing from the store for several weeks.

The 24-year-old man from Cleveland was detained by loss prevention and cited for theft by the responding officers. He was suspected of stealing 21 items, valued at $135.
