There are many things to like about Rutgers, from its wide variety of majors to athletics to its social scene to its unification as the State University of New Jersey. 1. Top-Ranked Academics

Rutgers-New Brunswick ranks in the top 15 public national universities, while Rutgers-Newark and Rutgers-Camden rank in the top 50. The Rutgers Business School is ranked as the top public business school in the Northeast, while 31 graduate programs rank within the top 25 nationally. Rutgers also boasts a top 25 pharmacy program and the fourth-best nursing program in the country, as well as the top physical therapy program in the state. Altogether, Rutgers offers more than 150 undergraduate majors across its three campuses and online, showcasing its academic diversity.
2. Student Activities
Rutgers offers more than 750 clubs, several recreation centers, intramural sports, Greek life, volunteer work, and a plethora of ways to get involved on campus. From major-specific clubs and honor societies, hobby-specific clubs, and religious organizations, Rutgers has something for everyone. Whether it's engaging with Rutgers athletics, volunteering on campus, finding a new hobby, or gaining experience in your field, student activities are truly what make Rutgers your home.
3. Social Scene
Building on the last point, Rutgers offers numerous opportunities to make friends and explore the social scene. While you may form bonds with classmates and make lifelong friends through extracurricular activities, exploring the nightlife on College Avenue is essential for any student. From campus parties to the bars on College Avenue, students will enjoy the social scene that Rutgers provides well into the night. Whether it's dining in the campus dining halls or at the many other restaurants on campus, attending a recital or sporting event, or simply meeting up with friends after class, there is no shortage of opportunities to meet new people at Rutgers.
4. Convenience and State Pride
Rutgers-New Brunswick is centrally located within New Jersey, with Piscataway and New Brunswick easily accessible by car, bus, or train. New York City is only about 45 minutes away, with Philadelphia an hour and a half in the other direction. Rutgers is within an hour of Trenton, the Jersey Shore, and other state landmarks. It is known as a commuter school, while also housing thousands of students, including those from out-of-state and a sizeable international student population. In addition, Rutgers unifies the three parts of New Jersey, with North, Central, and South Jersey residents teaming up to support Rutgers as their state school. This unity sets Rutgers athletics apart as New Jersey’s team in a state that is divided between New York and Philadelphia sports loyalties.
5. Big Ten Athletics
Of course, all of us at On the Banks are dialed in on the sports scene at Rutgers. From the football team, which has made major strides on the field in the nation’s top football conference, to men’s basketball, which has featured two NBA lottery picks on the court, to the many other Big Ten teams, including women’s basketball, men’s and women’s lacrosse and soccer, wrestling, gymnastics, and beyond! The Rutgers rowing and track & field teams have both recently qualified for NCAA Championships, showing that the Scarlet Knights' athletic prowess goes well beyond the gridiron and hardwood.
